Porcelinen was started with the intention of producing one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully designed products with an emphasis on sustainability. It is a fusion of my hobbies: illustration, ceramics, screen printing, and vintage resale. The common thread is creating products that blur the line between fine art and fashion; designing timeless pieces whose form follows function. As my business grows I continue to personally make all items by hand and source materials as locally as possible.

The name Porcelinen is a portmanteau of porcelain and linen, the two halves of my practice that encompass ceramics and textiles. In ceramics I work primarily as a hand builder, bypassing the wheel in favor of the versatility and freedom that hand building allows. I emphasize intimate imperfections in my pieces, embracing the Buddhist concept of wabi-sabi which finds beauty in all that is flawed, impermanent and unfinished. My illustrations inform my ceramic pieces. I might create a shape from a drawing, or draw onto a shape molded in clay. Porcelain is my favorite clay body despite being the most difficult to work with. I am enamored by its simultaneous fineness and durability, with its smooth finish as an optimal surface for my delicate drawings.

Hand screen-printing my illustrations onto vintage clothing expands my love of vintage resale while upholding my values. I believe secondhand clothes are better for the environment and allow for individuality in protest of mass production. High quality textiles are the secret ingredient to long lasting garments. When searching estate sales for vintage to print on, I judge the value of pieces by both design and fabric composition. Breathable linens, luxurious silks and sheer chiffons cut in to simple, classic, non-gendered styles are the cornerstones of my collection. Each garment that I print my drawings on maintains the history of the piece while elevating it to a work of art.

My intention with Porcelinen is to create products that you will enjoy for years to come. I truly love each piece that I put to market. It is my hope Porcelinen products bring you the same joy they brought me while creating them.
